Awards for Girl Scouts of the Islamic Faith

To achieve the BISMILLAH AWARD, Daisy and Brownie Girl Scouts are expected to complete the program outlined in the booklet and to work at a social service program during the year at a primary level. Junior, Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts are expected to complete the program outlined in their respective booklets and take part in community service projects of an advanced level for their IN THE NAME OF ALLAH AWARD (for Junior Girl Scouts), the QURAT UL A'IN AWARD (for Cadette Girl Scouts) and the MUSLIMEEN AWARD (for Senior Girl Scouts).

This social service program can be a troop project of water conservation, tree planting, community cleanup, and/or collecting recyclable items. DAISY AND BROWNIE Girl Scouts can make posters for their project and troop leaders can contact schools, local chapters of Girl Scouts, local libraries or Islamic Centers to have them exhibited. The JUNIOR, CADETTE AND SENIOR Girl Scout troops can also organize a traveling exhibition in cooperation with other Girl Scout troops in the area.

Another project can be the collection of canned food items for the needy in the community. DAISY, BROWNIE, JUNIOR, CADETTE AND SENIOR GIRL SCOUTS can all participate in this project. The troop leaders can contact homeless shelters, mosques, churches and other centers to find out the number of people being served if the troop is planning to serve hot food. The collected canned or dry foods can be distributed during Eid Ud Adha, Eid ul Fitr or during Christmas when Sayyedna Essa's (Jesus') birthday is celebrated here.

JUNIOR, CADETTE AND SENIOR GIRL SCOUTS can join DAISY AND BROWNIE GIRL SCOUTS in educational visits to museums, other Islamic Centers and/or schools, and to places like the Observatory in the area to learn more about the moon and other planets. Such a visit is recommended during their study of the lunar calendar and Islamic holidays. Troop leaders can inquire about the requirements of such a visit by calling in advance and talking to administrators.

On a person to person level, JUNIOR, CADETTE AND SENIOR GIRL SCOUTS can help DAISY AND BROWNIE GIRL SCOUTS learn easy Surahs from the Holy Quran and the meaning of words of prayers.

CADETTE AND SENIOR GIRL SCOUTS are encouraged to take a leadership role by organizing their programs. All community service projects and educational visits will be closely supervised by parents, troop leaders and/or Islamic Center chairperson.

The emphasis of the BROWNIE, JUNIOR, CADETTE AND SENIOR GIRL SCOUTS Religious Recognition Programs is on both the Theory and Practice of Islam. The program should be divided so that every year Girl Scouts can work on part of the assignment in each section. By applying what is learnt in the following programs, it is hoped that our girls and young women will understand the natural and logical values, and the practicality, of Islam.

Girl Scouts of the Islamic Faith may contact the Committee for information on the Ramadhan Patches for Brownie, Junior, Cadette and Senior levels.
